Hotel Crawford Inn Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Crawford Inn in Mumbai, you immediately get that “local business hotel” vibe — and I mean that in the best way possible. This three-star property sits right in the heart of South Mumbai’s Fort district, tucked into the Sitaram Building on a busy street that honestly feels like the real Mumbai. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I actually found refreshing after seeing so many cookie-cutter places.

Location & Getting Around

The location is honestly fantastic if you want to be in the thick of things. You’re walking distance from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (the old Victoria Terminus), and the Gateway of India is maybe a 15-minute stroll through some pretty interesting streets. What I loved is that you can easily explore the colonial architecture area — those grand old buildings are everywhere around here. The couples who stay here seem to really appreciate being able to walk to Marine Drive for those evening strolls, and I get why the rating reflects that romantic appeal.

The Room Experience

My room was compact but thoughtfully arranged — you know what I mean when I say “Mumbai compact,” right? Everything you need is there, just efficiently packed. The AC worked well (crucial in Mumbai), and the bed was actually comfortable, though the space definitely feels more functional than fancy. There’s decent storage for a few days’ worth of clothes, and the bathroom, while small, had good water pressure. The windows face the busy street, so you’ll hear Mumbai doing its thing, but that’s part of the charm if you ask me.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup is purely vegetarian, which works perfectly in a city where some of the best food doesn’t involve meat anyway. It’s a simple spread — think Indian breakfast staples like poha, upma, and fresh fruit, plus some continental options like toast and eggs. Nothing elaborate, but it gets you going for the day. I actually appreciated that they kept it straightforward rather than trying to do too much. There’s no full restaurant, but honestly, you’re in Mumbai — step outside and you’ve got incredible street food and proper restaurants within a block or two.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about Hotel Crawford Inn — it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate the area, and the 7.1 rating makes sense when you consider the value proposition. You’re paying for a clean, safe place to sleep in one of Mumbai’s most central locations, with decent amenities and people who know the neighborhood. It’s particularly great for couples who want to explore the historic part of the city on foot, grab dinner at nearby restaurants, and not worry about long commutes back to their hotel. The parking situation is typical Mumbai challenging, but if you’re smart, you’ll skip the car and use the excellent local transport connections anyway.

  • Benjamin from United Kingdom (7/10)

Despite mixed reviews, as a solo traveller needing a place to stay for 2 nights while visiting Mumbai, my experience was positive. My room on the 6th floor was fine, the bed actually very comfortable – pleasant enough to enjoy a rest in the afternoon as well as a night's sleep – just don't expect it to look like the photos. The staff were stern but very efficient and were always available in the lobby, which gave a sense of security when stepping in or out into the street. Well located for the central train station. Not convinced it was particularly good value overall, but you could do a lot worse in terms of quality. Great restaurant next door (Ustaadi).
