First Impressions

Walking into The Oberoi Mumbai feels like stepping into a different world entirely — one where the chaos of the city suddenly melts away. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Mumbai’s business district at Nariman Point, but somehow this five-star property manages to create this bubble of calm that’s honestly quite remarkable. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually prefer over some of the more flashy luxury hotels in the city. You know what struck me most? The staff genuinely seemed to remember guests’ names and preferences, which explains why so many people keep coming back here.

Location & Neighborhood

Nariman Point is where you want to be if you’re doing business in Mumbai, but it’s also perfect for tourists who want to be close to everything that matters. You’re walking distance from the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Palace — I actually strolled there one evening and it took maybe fifteen minutes along the waterfront. The Marine Drive promenade is right there too, and honestly, there’s nothing quite like that evening walk along the Queen’s Necklace when the streetlights come on. What couples seem to love most (and I can see why they rate the location so highly) is how you can easily get to both the historic Fort district and the upscale Colaba area without dealing with Mumbai’s notorious traffic.

The Room Experience

The rooms here are what luxury should be — spacious without being overwhelming, and those beds are genuinely something special. I’m usually pretty picky about hotel beds, but I slept better here than I have in months, which apparently isn’t just me since guests consistently rave about them. The views depend on which side you’re on, but if you get a room facing the Arabian Sea, well, you’re in for a treat. The marble bathrooms feel indulgent in the best way, and there’s this attention to detail — like the way they fold the towels and the quality of the toiletries — that reminds you why you’re paying five-star prices.

Dining & Breakfast

The breakfast buffet is actually worth getting up for, which says something because I’m not usually a morning person. They’ve got this mix of Indian specialties and international options that somehow works perfectly — you can have fresh dosas made to order alongside really good coffee and pastries. What I appreciated was that it never felt rushed or crowded, even when the hotel was clearly busy. The restaurants here are solid too, though honestly, with Mumbai’s incredible food scene right outside your door, you’d be missing out if you didn’t venture out at least once or twice.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a hotel that gets the basics absolutely right — comfortable beds, attentive service, and a location that puts you in the center of everything without making you feel like you’re camping in Times Square. The fact that they offer free parking is huge in a city like Mumbai where finding a spot can be a nightmare. But what really sets The Oberoi Mumbai apart is this sense of consistency — you know exactly what you’re getting, and it’s going to be good every single time. That’s probably why so many guests keep coming back, and honestly, after staying here, I completely understand the appeal.

  We arrived in Mumbai in the middle of the night and from the moment we were met by the Oberoi driver we were made to feel at home. A member of staff greeted us straight from the car and handled check in inside our room so we could be comfortable. The room had been decorated for my husband’s birthday which was a nice touch. The service during our entire stay was impeccable. From the staff servicing our rooms, the waitstaff in the champagne bar and Eau bar, the baggage/driver staff, the concierge, and the pool staff, everyone was superb and couldn’t have made more of an effort to make our stay more comfortable. We have since travelled to a different city in India which doesn’t have an Oberoi and the difference in service is stark. The Oberoi is best in class.
